We’re real proud of Sammy’s progress. He is no longer plucking; however, he has broken a couple blood feathers during the past three months that gave us a scare. He says “Hello” in many different voices and he’s FINALLY realizing that he can chew his toys and other items we give him. He will now take food from our hand and he loves to dance. He is so precious and gives kisses now when you ask for one. He is becoming quite the gentleman

Sammy is not a feather plucker but he sure likes to chew them off. It seems as soon as we get him with a few coming in he’ll break them with his beak or just bite it off. He is socializing with everybody (but me) really well. My problem is he doesn’t know what toys are or that he can shew them. He does have a whiffle ball that he loves to chew. The other day he dropped it in the floor and then slammed his wood block chew toy against his ladder and when I turned to look he quickly turned and stared out the window and started whistling like he didn’t make that noise. LOL! He does have some personality starting to come out and he loves to swing. He can say Hello and Sammy but never when I want him too.
His diet is now fresh veggies and fruit, dehydrated veggies and fruit, and pellets. He is healthy and big. His head is beautiful and all of his downy feathers are coming in. I think if he would play with some of the toys he would stop chewing his feathers. Any suggestions on how to teach a five year old he can chew stuff up?
I have been pretty sick lately and Tweak has started plucking again. I am feeling better now and can pick her up without passing along the infection so I hope to have her back to pretty feathers in no time at all. She is so sensitive to my feelings. She is so precocious right now!

Sphere: Related ContentEdgar, my cat who turned 5 on Mothers Day, was killed by the neighbors dog. I am heart broken and lonely. He was my lap kitty, my never leave my side when I was sick kitty, my loverly kitty who always knew when i needed him and he never left my side. I still don’t know how he got outside and I guess I never will. He was neutered fairly young; but, he still had the desire to wander outside for about five minutes and that was all he wanted. Words can’t express my love for him, nor the sorrow in my heart knowing he will never sit in my lap again. He was in my lap almost every single night of the five years I was graced to have him in my life. I love you Edgar and I will miss you til the end of my days…. Especially Christmas….. the tree won’t be the same without you my dear friend.

Sammy just took his first shower since coming home and he loved it! I built this shower perch for him Friday night. If you need a shower perch for your parrot I am selling them for $25 plus shipping. Some assembly required. Please state bird size in notes so I can send the appropriate sized perch.
Sphere: Related ContentSammy! He is starting to talk a little, only words so far are Sammy and Mama ;) We put all the birds on the front porch today so they could soak up some sunshine. Bob is whistling, something new for him! Tweak is swinging and soaking up the sun and napping. Peppy is napping in the sun. Gumby is playing and swinging. Sammy is preening. They are all enjoying the warm sun!

Sphere: Related ContentAs promised, here are some pictures of the new bird. I call him the new bird because we have not settled on a name for him yet. He is male and he is banded and at five years old he has never had a name. He has no vocabulary that we’ve heard yet, but he can bark like a dog. He likes high places and I will try to get some pictures of him on the swinging perch we built last night. He was a little traumatized yesterday and I didn’t want to make it worse by taking pictures with the flash on and it was too dark to get a good picture without it. These are the pictures they took yesterday when picking him up!

Sphere: Related ContentThank you to everybody who has donated and we are still taking donations. So far I have collected $60 and I talked them down to $250 on the bird. He has no tail feathers, and most of his wing feathers are gone. He looks the same, or worse, than in the pictures below.

Again, thank you to all those who donated! (((HUGS))) I know with the proper care and attention we can bring this fellow back to his full glory. My husband is going to pick him up Friday. I can’t wait to meet him!

I have raised $50 thanks to two generous donors. I have emailed the owner and am planning to go get this bird on Friday. Any donations would be much appreciated as I have recently rescued a cockatiel and a quaker. This blue and gold macaw is only 4 hours from me. We have had such good progress with Tweak that I am sure we can have this fellow looking fine and full feathered in no time. Thank you!
